Giorgio Agamben\u00a0in, <i>Homo Sacer<\/i>, takes the definition from Pompeius Festus\u2019 \u2013 \u201cthe one whom the people have judged on account of a crime,\u201d and who can be\u00a0killed without legal consequence. Slavoj \u017di\u017eek\u00a0defines today\u2019s <i>homo sacer <\/i>as \u201cthe privileged object of humanitarian biopolitics: the one who is deprived of his or her full humanity being taken care of in a very patronizing way\u201d \u2013 a \u2018fugitive\u2019, \u2018outsider\u2019 or \u2018non-citizen\u2019 who neither makes, nor enjoys the protection of,\u00a0the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an inhabitant of this city, which generates such a large proportion of its income through the prostitution industry, the issue is one I feel compelled to tackle with my work, but I struggle to find a way to approach it as an artistic project\u2026 so many feminist controversies, so many complexities \u00ad I am wary of the battleground.
